Duwamish Gardens Acquisition and Restoration in Tukwila
Project Description
- Located in the Duwamish Estuary Subwatershed
- Part of project DUW-7 in the 2005 Salmon Habitat Plan (page 7-90)
- The project was constructed in 2015 and 2016, and completed in December 2016.
- Acquired in 2008, the 2.16 acre site includes 500 feet of river bank just downstream of the East Marginal Way South bridge and Link Light Rail bridge.
- New off-channel habitat that will benefit juvenile threatened Chinook salmon and other fish and wildlife was created, diverse native trees and shrubs were planted, and a trail, bench, and access to the river along a gravel path is now in place.

- $2,476,722 in restoration funding was provided by:
- SRFB 2013: $761,722
- King County FCD Cooperative Watershed Management (CWM) Progam 2012: $500,000

Importance for Salmon
- The site is located in the zone of salt and freshwater mixing that is especially important to juvenile salmon in the watershed.
- This is a critical transition area for juvenile salmon produced higher in the Green/Duwamish River watershed.
