This guide is published by the Local Hazardous Waste Management Program in King County, a coalition of the following agencies: King County Department of Natural Resources (Solid Waste Division and Water and Land Resource Division), Public Health - Seattle & King County, Seattle Public Utilities, and the Suburban Cities Association.

This guide has evolved over the last decade, beginning in the mid-1980s as an informal collection of referral contacts from local waste management agencies and health departments. In 1988 the Puget Sound Waste Information Network prepared a major revision of the guide and gave it the present format. The 1994 edition was prepared by the Local Hazardous Waste Management Program in King County. This 2008 edition is a further refinement and update of the guide.

The original guide was reviewed by the following agencies:

  • Washington State Department of Ecology
  • Public Health - Seattle & King County
  • King County Department of Natural Resources
    • Solid Waste Division
    • Water and Land Resources Division
  • Seattle Public Utilities
  • Suburban Cities Association
