EnviroStars

The EnviroStars Program provides businesses incentives and recognition for reducing hazardous waste, while giving consumers an objective way to identify environmentally sound practices. Proactive businesses working to prevent pollution are rated from two to five stars and receive program benefits according to their star level.

History
The program was created in King County in 1995 and has expanded to other Puget Sound counties, including Jefferson, Kitsap, Pierce and Whatcom Counties. Puget Soundkeeper Alliance (PSA), a non-profit environmental organization, joined in establishing the EnviroStars Cooperative to support the spread of EnviroStars in the Puget Sound region. The EnviroStars Cooperative (Co-op) is a partnership of the different county EnviroStars programs.
